What is the EUDR cut-off date?

31 December 2020. Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 defines deforestation-free as no deforestation after that date, so forest loss before it is not in scope.

Does a clean forest-loss result mean a consignment is EUDR compliant?

What it does

Checks plots for forest loss. GeoJSON boundaries, a commodity and a country of production return a per-plot verdict, the loss years observed, and how much of each polygon was actually inspected.
Finds what a supplier file is missing. Article 9(1) is a closed list of eight items, (a) to (h), an operator must hold. Supplier records are checked against it field by field, and the gaps come back with the article limb and the request to send.
Prepares the statement. A compiled Annex II document, signed, exportable as TRACES NT submission XML — and never filed with any authority on your behalf.
Each verdict links its evidence chain. It carries the derivation chain that produced it: which cells, which signed measurements, which algorithm against which pinned registries, and which of three independent keys signed what. Read the methodology.

Buying from farms, for any destination

The EU check is one gate, and only for the crops the Regulation covers. For everything else a buyer asks the same question: should we buy this lot, for which market, at what price.

Farms as records. Any crop, anywhere: a pin and a crop are enough to start. The field boundary is proposed from Fields of The World and kept only when a person accepts it. A banana farm in Solapur is told plainly that no EU deforestation check is needed.
Your own buying process. Each organisation sets who votes (agents, field buyer, verifier, manager, and whether the farmer votes, only consents, or is not involved), which dimensions are judged, its own quality spec, a fixed or capped price, and the thresholds. Every version is kept. Legal blocks cannot be voted or overridden away; the organisation's own rules can be set aside by its manager, with a reason on the record.
Preview before you adopt. A process is run on a worked lot (Grand Naine banana in Karmala, Solapur, against your destinations) so you see what it would decide, and why, before anyone relies on it.
Decide a lot, then learn from it. On a banana farm, enter what you measured and the offer: each destination gets its answer, the margin range, the most you can pay, and the deal zone against the farmer's ask; the farmer is shown the grade and the local market price, never your walk-away price. Record what happened when the lot arrived, and each voter's weight moves with how right they were. A visit goes up as one package: the measurements, the flowering date, a temperature logger's export (which replaces assumed heat units), and a fingerprint of each photo and paper; storing the files themselves is next.

What it does not do

This answers Article 3(a), deforestation-free, which is observable from orbit. It does not answer Article 3(b), legality in the country of production: land tenure, harvesting and environmental permits, free prior and informed consent, labour and tax compliance. Those are documentary checks the operator carries out, and every response names them as unresolved rather than letting a clean forest-loss result read as a clean due-diligence file.
